We’ll Handle It

There is so much
we cannot control.

The sky does what it wants.
Storms arrive without asking.
The ground shifts
when we are still standing on it.

People come.
People go.
Some leave quietly.
Some take pieces of us
when they do.

There are seasons
of more than enough
and seasons
that stretch us thin.

Flood.
Famine.
Fire.
The kind of trouble
that finds you
even when you’ve done everything right.

We know this now.

We don’t pretend
the world is gentle.

But we also know this:

we are not in it alone.

You reach for my hand
without looking
and I am already there.

Like something in us
understands
before we do.

We don’t always have answers.

We don’t always get it right.

There are days
we are tired
in ways sleep can’t fix.

Days where everything feels
just slightly too heavy
to carry the way we used to.

But we carry it anyway.

Together.

We talk it through.
We sit in it.
We laugh when we can
even when it feels misplaced.
We hold each other
when there are no words
that make anything better.

And somehow,
that is enough.

Not because the world changes.

But because we do.

We adjust.
We bend.
We figure it out
one step at a time
without letting go
of the one thing
that matters most.

Us.

For them.

For the life we are building
in the middle of all of this.

For the small, steady moments
that don’t make headlines
but make a life.

So let the sky turn.
Let it darken.
Let it break open
if it has to.

We will stand in it.

Side by side.
Hand in hand.

Not untouched.
Not unafraid.

But together.

And whatever comes—

we’ll handle it.

Poetry by Britt Wolfe:

Britt Wolfe

Britt Wolfe writes emotionally devastating fiction with the precision of a heart surgeon and the recklessness of someone who definitely shouldn’t be trusted with sharp objects. Her stories explore love, loss, and the complicated mess of being human. If you enjoy books that punch you in the feelings and then politely offer you a Band-Aid, you’re in the right place.
