Let Go and Let Life

There comes a moment
in every life

when the hands grow tired
from holding the world
too tightly.

For years, people are taught
to plan.

To measure the horizon
with rulers of certainty.

To sketch the future
as though life were a blueprint
waiting patiently
to be perfected.

So they build their days
carefully.

They calculate every turn,
map every mile,
stack their hopes neatly
like fragile glass.

And still—

life refuses
to follow the drawings.

Because life
was never meant
to be controlled.

It is not architecture.

It is weather.

It is tide.

It is wind moving through forests
older than human intention.

And the strange truth
waiting quietly beneath it all
is this:

the tighter the grip,
the narrower the world becomes.

But the moment
the hands open—

the moment the mind
releases its endless need
to arrange the universe—

something extraordinary happens.

The path widens.

The air softens.

The future begins
to unfold
with a kind of quiet intelligence
no human plan
could have designed.

Doors appear
in places that once seemed
like walls.

Light enters rooms
no one knew existed.

And life—
beautiful, unpredictable life—

moves again.

Because life does not ask
to be mastered.

It asks
to be trusted.

It asks for courage
of a different kind:

the courage
to loosen the grip,

to release the map,

to walk forward
without demanding
to see the final horizon.

And those who learn
this gentle wisdom

discover something
few ever understand.

The most extraordinary lives
are not the ones
perfectly arranged.

They are the ones
fully received.

So when the river
begins to pull,

do not fight the current.

Do not anchor yourself
to fear.

Open your hands.

Open your heart.

And remember—

life has always known
how to carry you.

All that was ever required
was the quiet bravery

to let go

and let life.

Poetry by Britt Wolfe:

Britt Wolfe

Britt Wolfe writes emotionally devastating fiction with the precision of a heart surgeon and the recklessness of someone who definitely shouldn’t be trusted with sharp objects. Her stories explore love, loss, and the complicated mess of being human. If you enjoy books that punch you in the feelings and then politely offer you a Band-Aid, you’re in the right place.
