The Wonder of Grandparents

Grandparents are the secret magic
woven into a family’s fabric—
keepers of stories,
guardians of recipes,
conspirators in laughter.

They turn ordinary afternoons
into treasure hunts of memory,
pockets filled with peppermints,
hearts overflowing with patience.
The world softens around them,
time stretches,
rules bend just enough
to make everything sparkle.

For children,
grandparents are half-myth, half-home—
the tallest storytellers,
the gentlest hands,
the place where love overflows
without conditions or clocks.

And what fortune,
what luminous gift it is,
to watch the children’s eyes
light up at the sight of them,
to know their laughter
will be stitched into my children’s becoming.

Grandparents are wonder made flesh,
joy with silver in its hair,
love that has ripened into sweetness.
They are the brightest blessing
I could have ever asked for
in the lives of my children.

Keep My Words Alive

If this poem has stayed with you, you can help keep my words alive or explore more of my work. Every bit of support helps carry the stories forward.

Britt Wolfe

Britt Wolfe writes emotionally devastating fiction with the precision of a heart surgeon and the recklessness of someone who definitely shouldn’t be trusted with sharp objects. Her stories explore love, loss, and the complicated mess of being human. If you enjoy books that punch you in the feelings and then politely offer you a Band-Aid, you’re in the right place.
