The More I Know You, the More I Love You

Read more poetry by Britt Wolfe

It’s strange, isn’t it—
how some people shrink
the closer you look,
how the fine print of who they are
reveals the fragile seams
you didn’t see from far away.

But you—
you are the opposite of that.

Every day I learn you deeper,
and every day my heart expands
to hold what I’ve discovered—
not because you’re perfect,
but because you’re real
in the rarest, most breathtaking way.

Loving you has never been a risk.
It has been a revelation.

The more I see your quiet strengths,
your unguarded softness,
your humour, your kindness,
the fierce tenderness you carry
in the most ordinary moments—
the more I understand
how impossible it is
to love you less.

I know the shape of your hands,
the cadence of your thoughts,
the way your heart steadies mine
without even trying.
And still—
still there is always more.
More to learn,
more to marvel at,
more to fall into
as though love were an endless ocean
and you were the tide pulling me in.

Some people become smaller
as the years pass.
You have only grown
more brilliant,
more intricate,
more you
and I have only become
more certain
that whatever my heart was made for,
it knew your name
long before I did.

I couldn’t love you less
even if I tried.
Knowing you—truly knowing you—
is the very thing
that makes loving you
so easy,
so natural,
so endlessly new.

Every day I discover another reason,
another truth,
another tiny miracle
that brings me back to you.

And my love—
if this is what it feels like
to keep learning you,
then I hope I never reach the end
of all the ways
I will love you more.

Poetry Anthologies by Britt Wolfe:

Britt Wolfe

Britt Wolfe writes emotionally devastating fiction with the precision of a heart surgeon and the recklessness of someone who definitely shouldn’t be trusted with sharp objects. Her stories explore love, loss, and the complicated mess of being human. If you enjoy books that punch you in the feelings and then politely offer you a Band-Aid, you’re in the right place.
